The first half of July is a busy time for birthdays in my family – half of us have our birthdays all within a 9-day span. To celebrate this year, we decided to take the kids to a fun place near our home – Enchanted Forest. It’s a theme park done in fairy tales. Upon paying the entrance fee, you walk a path that takes you on a meandering journey through a wide variety of houses (life size sculptures, many of which you can actually go inside) from pretty much every fairy tale and nursery rhyme you can think of – and many you probably can’t.
For something so visual, I think a photo essay with captions is the best way to share our experience.

There are a few others that it seems we didn’t get pictures of: Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Alice in Wonderland, and The Crooked Man (perhaps others, too, but those are the ones I remember).
Upon leaving Fairy Tale Lane, you move on to where the rides are. There’s an area with several kiddie rides, which Small Fry enjoyed very much, and then a little farther away are rides for big people: a roller coaster, log flume, and haunted house. We did the roller coaster (even Small Fry was tall enough to go on that with a grown up) and the log flume. Because we have a baby, we did the rides in shifts – Will took one of the big kids while I waited with the others, then we switched. We did both rides that way.

After the ride area, there’s a western town that’s mostly fun things to look at. Included is a air shot range and a small theater with statues performing Sing a Song of Sixpence (a pocket full of rye; four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie…). The final area before you leave is a Bavarian village, where you can see things such as Gepetto’s workshop (from Pinocchio).
We had some Olive Garden gift cards that we’d received as birthday gifts, so we did that on the way home, which was a wonderful way to round out the fun day.
