Picture of the Week: Teamwork

Seahawk and Munchkin have alternating chores. On even days, Seahawk empties the dishwasher and Munchkin takes out the compost; on odd days, they switch. (Neither minds emptying the dishwasher, but both hate taking out the compost. This way both chores get done but the kids don’t fight … as much.) Small Fry just likes to play near the open dishwasher. I mean, “help” empty it.

Picture of the Week: Basketball

Seahawk is on a basketball team. Our local parks & rec department provides team sports for all the kids in town (who want to play and pay the fee, of course) below high school. This is our first experience with it with our kids. I played basketball for two seasons about a million years ago – seriously, I wasn’t that much older when I played than Seahawk is now. Anyway, it’s been a very rewarding experience for the entire family. Seahawk is learning the essentials of the game as well as good teamwork. Both are good lessons for kids.

Last Saturday was his first game; that’s what the picture is from. There are only 7 kids on his team, so each one gets loads of playtime in the games.

Tomorrow he has official team pictures followed by Game Number 2. Do you have any fun weekend plans?

I was in the kids’ bathroom this week, and I noticed this Lego man doing a handstand on the shampoo caddy. I don’t know which kid did that to him (probably Seahawk), but I thought it was too funny not to snap a photo of.

Picture of the Week: Iron Man

Our town does a thing every Halloween where the downtown businesses offer trick-or-treating for the kids. This came about a few years ago when there was a lot of controversy over house-to-house trick-or-treating because of the “risk” associated with accepting candy/food from strangers. One of the insurance offices had someone in a full-on Iron Man costume around for pictures.

Seahawk went as Russell Wilson (of course!) and Munchkin was a ninja. I think we spent a sum total of $8 for their costumes – $4 at Goodwill for the football helmet (which is actually a softball helmet, but no matter) and $4 for the fabric to make the ninja mask. They just wore regular clothes otherwise.

When we go grocery shopping, I sometimes let the kids ride the mechanical horse afterward if they’ve behaved in the store. This day, they all rode together instead of Seahawk and Munchkin having separate rides and each taking Small Fry (I don’t trust him to ride on his own yet).
